THE AIADMK's presidium chairman E Madhusudanan has been renominated by the party to contest the R.K. Nagar by-poll to be held on December 21.
The by-poll will once again see a three-cornered fight with Madhusudanan taking on T.T.V. Dhinakaran (expelled AIADMK leader and nephew of jailed V.K. Sasikala) and DMK’s Marudhu Ganesh - all three were in the fray in the by-poll that was earlier supposed to be held in April but was cancelled by the Election Commission at the last minute.
The BJP is yet to announce its candidate. In April, it fielded musician Gangai Amaran.
Dhinakaran’s candidature was announced last evening after he met his aunt Sasikala in a Bengaluru jail.
AIADMK’s Parliamentary board met at its headquarters this morning to renominate its senior leader Madhusudanan.
The by-poll was necessitated following the demise of former chief minister J. Jayalalithaa, who represented R.K. Nagar constituency. It was earlier to be held on April 21 but the Election Commission cancelled it due to allegations of large sums of money being distributed to voters by various parties.
The result will be announced on December 24.
