Ajay Bhushan Pandey, a 1984 batch Indian Administrative Officer of Maharashtra cadre, has taken over as the Revenue Secretary on the superannuation of Hasmukh Adhia on Friday.

Adhia bid goodbye to the Finance Ministry after 37 years of service and 38-months stint as the Revenue Secretary.

Pandey, who is the Chairman of GSTN (Goods and Services Network) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Unique Identification authority of India (UIDAI), will continue to hold these posts.

Speaking to media after taking charge, Pandey said his priorities, among others, will be to help the government improve tax-GDP ratio, enhance tax compliance through integration of technology, stabilise the implementation of GST, bring transparency and simplification of laws and procedures for better tax administration and ease of business.

He said he would welcome any suggestions from the public regarding direct and indirect tax reforms as this will help pave the way for providing better incentives and services to tax payers.

During his stint of more than 8 years in the UIDAI , he played a key role in establishing and steering Aadhaar across the country and drafting the Aadhaar legislation for providing statutory basis to it.

He was also instrumental in scaling up Aadhaar in delivery of government subsidies and benefits which led to savings of more than ₹90,000 crore during the last three years by eliminating ghosts and duplicates and ensuring that the benefits reached the real and deserving beneficiaries.

An Electrical Engineering graduate from IIT Kanpur, Pandey also holds MS and PhD degrees in Computer Science.
