Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today said the issue of allowing FDI in retail should be left to the states.
“Some states support, some do not. Leave (it) to the states to decide,” Hooda said at an interactive session with MCC Chamber of Commerce and Industry here.
“Being a son of a farmer, I support FDI in retail as currently the farm return of a farmer is very less and with FDI it will increase,” he said.
He also indicated that government should allow multi-brand retail FDI in states who support the move.
The decision to allow 51 per cent foreign direct investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail was announced in November last year.
But its implementation was put on hold after a strong protest from various parties including key UPA-ally Trinamool Congress.
