The greenfield city of Amaravati City, being built on the banks of the river Krishna, has been awarded with IGBC Green City Platinum Award for its master plan and design.
This is seen a major leap in the Andhra Pradesh Government’s mission of building a greener city and healthier state.
“Amaravati City will be home to some of the finest, innovative and futuristic green building concepts and technologies, worth emulating by other cities across the globe,” Prem C Jain, Chairman, IGBC, said in a statement.
The upcoming green capital city would incorporate some of the finest and futuristic green building concepts and technologies which in turn will go way in enhancing the health and well-being of the occupants in the State, he said.
The upcoming city, which will be designed as per IGBC Green Cities rating system, is expected to have smart grid with renewable energy, smart metering, bluing and greening of the city by zoning it in equitable residential, commercial, recreational and industrial zones.
It is proposed to have integrated multi-modal transport infrastructure, surveillance systems, waste water treatment, rain water harvesting, among other features.
The IGBC Green Cities rating system encourages concepts and features which are a blend of ancient architectural practices and modern technological innovations. It adopts a holistic approach in the design and construction of the city.
Dholera City in Gujarat, New Town in Kolkata, Bhopal City, GIFT City, and Sri City in Andhra Pradesh are some other projects registered with IGBC. All these cities are designed to reduce the environmental impact and significantly improve the overall quality of life.
On the IGBC move to partner the Andhra Pradesh Government on the initiative, Jain said, “In the days to come, Amaravati will be the much sought-after city for all the national and international stakeholders who wish to enhance the quality of life of its citizens.”
