Reiterating the BJP’s stand on the contentious issue of religious conversions, the party’s national president Amit Shah on Friday said it has never favoured forceful change of people’s religion. The party will support legislation against such conversions, he added.

Addressing the media, Shah also said Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu has appealed to all political parties for such a law.. All parties should build consensus it, he said.

Media pressure He also appealed to the media to bring pressure on political parties that hold other views on such legislation.

On the issue of a post-poll alliance in Jammu and Kashmir, Shah said the BJP has not decided yet whether it will support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or the National Conference (NC) in forming the government.

While talks are underway with both the parties, a final decision is yet to be reached, he said.

Shah said the BJP’s stand on Article 370 has been unvarying since 1950 and soon the people of the country will understand it more clearly. Shah would not comment on his recent discharge by a special CBI court in the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case, since the matter is sub judice.

Only his lawyers could only comment on the matter, he said.
