The Capital was abuzz with reports about the BJP replacing Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel in the light of her perceived failure to address the drought situation, as well as the Patidar agitation. Among alternatives being discussed was Nitin Patel, who holds multiple portfolios and is known to be a loyalist of party chief Amit Shah. The proposed changes are being discussed following a report submitted to the party high command by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trusted aide Om Mathur which makes a mention of the infighting in the State unit as well as the caste strife in Gujarat. The BJP, it is believed, would like to make the necessary change befsore the state elections next year.
