Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy once again asserted Thursday that he remained an integrationist and he would strive to keep the State united, as only a united Andhra Pradesh would serve the Telugu-speaking people best in all the regions of the State and it would also be in the interests of the nation.

He made the remarks after garlanding the statue of late prime minister Indira Gandhi here on the occasion of her death anniversary. He said Indira Gandhi had stood firm and rejected the demands for bifurcation of the State during her tenure as she sincerely felt that only a united Andhra Pradesh could achieve all-round and integrated development. She made a statement in Parliament spelling out the reasons for her position and those reasons were still valid, the Chief Minister observed.

He said the great leader had the vision and courage of conviction to speak her mind unambiguously on the issue. He said he would follow in her footsteps and strive to keep the State united. “I have explained my position on the issue several times and even then my words are being misinterpreted. I have taken this position keeping in mind the interests of the public in all the regions. I deem it my duty,” he explained.

Later, at a public meeting at Gollaprolu in East Godavari district, the Chief Minister reiterated his position.
