The Andhra Pradesh government on Thursday outlined plans to encourage the setting up 4,800 MW of wind power capacity in the State over the next five years, with a potential investment of ₹30,000 crore.
At a workshop held in Vijayawada on the opportunities for growth in wind energy, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA), senior government officials and industry experts underlined the huge growth opportunities for developers, manufacturers and financial institutions in the sector.
According to a CII release, the experts emphasised that with the release of a new Wind Energy Policy, Andhra Pradesh aims to develop the sector, providing growth opportunities for players and private investors.
Ramesh Kymal, Chairman, Renewable Energy Council, CII Godrej GBC, and Madhusudan Khemka, Chairman, IWTMA, were among those who took part in the event.
The Indian wind energy market has grown to 24 GW and stands fourth in the global market. The estimated wind potential in the country is over 103 GW.
