The per capita milk availability in Andhra Pradesh stands at 343 gm. It has emerged second in terms of milk production, with 11.25 million tonnes per annum.

The per capita consumption in 1970 was 105 grams. The dairy sector is targeting production of 15 million tonnes by 2020. Investment to the tune of Rs 723 crore is proposed in bulk milk cooling units alone, according to information available.

There are plans to set up nearly 900 mini dairies with the emphasis being on the development of a supply chain. A mega dairy event starting tomorrow will take stock of the sector in Andhra Pradesh and discuss the way ahead. About 70 exhibitors will showcase their products, technology and services related to the sector.

The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, is expected to inaugurate the three-day show beginning tomorrow. The show will be organised by Hitex and Active Exhibitions and conferences. The State Animal Husbandry department is supporting the event, said a press release.

The event will exhibit 30 live dairy animals of 15 breeds in a separate pavilion. The idea behind the show is to bring together dairy farmers, entrepreneurs and corporates to discuss the issues confronting them, the release added.
