Power distribution companies in Andhra Pradesh have proposed a tariff hike of 6 per cent on the existing structure for all the categories, including industrial consumers.
Only low tension domestic consumers consuming less than 100 units and low tension agriculture connections have been spared from hike.
As per the new tariff proposals filed by the Discoms, a new sub-category of low tension consumers in the water treatment plant category have been exempt.
In the case of industrial consumers, in the LT category, it is proposed to increase from Rs 6.08 per unit to Rs 6.44 per unit. For high tension industrial consumers the tariff has been proposed to be hiked from Rs 6.03 per unit to Rs 6.39 per unit.
The proposed tariff hike has been based on existing tariff which was applicable during the financial year 2013-14 for all the sub-categories. Last year, the same prevailing tariffs were applied as there was no revision in tariff due to elections and bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
The State Government has programmed for supply of seven hours of power to the farm sector during 2015-16 and uninterrupted power supply for all the consumers.
The State is faced with transmission and distribution losses of up to 15 per cent and it is proposed to bring this down and pass on its benefit to the consumers. The tariff proposals would have to be approved by the regulatory commission and will come into operation from April 1, 2015.
