The Andhra Pradesh Energy Department has asked Transco (AP’s power transmission company) to initiate measures to strengthen intra-State and inter-State transmission system to help power-starving States buy power.
Andhra Pradesh, which faces severe shortage of power, will ask PGCIL to speed up its transmission projects with higher capacity sub-stations and Extra High Tension lines in the South. “These projects are likely to cost Rs 6,000 crore and are likely to be completed by the end of 2013-14,” the Member-Secretary of Energy Coordination Cell, said here in a press release.
While the existing PGCIL infrastructure consists of ten 400 KV High Voltage Direct Current sub-stations, the project envisages establishment of 765 KV sub-stations and EHT lines. When completed, this extra capacity would help address power shortages in the region.
M. Sahoo held discussions with Hiralal Samariya, the Chairman and Managing Director of AP Transco, on this issue.
