The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly has passed a resolution supporting the Constitution Amendment and the Goods and Services Tax Bill.
The resolution was passed amid noisy scenes where the Opposition YSR Congress Party members demanded a discussion on special package announced by the Centre for Andhra Pradesh.
With a couple of adjournments and vociferous demand by the Opposition for a discussion on special package, Speaker Kodela Sivaprasad had to adjourn the House to restore order.
When the House convened yet again, State Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu backed the GST Bill and said that it would be beneficial to both the Centre and States.
While highlighting the importance of special package to the State, he said a detailed debate on the issue was necessary.
Once the resolution was passed, the Speaker adjourned the House for the day.
With this, Andhra Pradesh joins the list of a number of States backing the Centre's move to implement the GST regime through 122nd Constitution Amendment.
