AP releases Rs 1,951 cr towards scholarships

The Andhra Pradesh Finance Department has released Rs 1,951.45 crore towards the reimbursements of tuition fees and post-matric scholarships to backward class students for 2012-13.

According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s office, the release comes following a direction from the Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy.

The State provides reimbursement of tuition fees to all eligible students from SCs, STs, Minorities, BCs and EBCs.

The Finance Department issued nine government orders on Tuesday releasing Rs 1,951.45 crore towards reimbursement of tuition fee and scholarships under various categories.

This includes reimbursement of tuition fee for SC students (Rs 234.44 crore), ST Students (Rs 114.59 crore), BC Students (Rs 750 crore), EBC students (Rs 250 crore) and minority students (Rs 150 crore). It also includes post-matric scholarships for various categories.

The State Government is taking special interest in developing Education sector in the State and implementing several programmes. About Rs 28,000 crore is being spent on education from KG to PG in the State.

On an average, 27 lakh students are given scholarships and fee reimbursements worth Rs 3,500 crore per year. In all, Rs 8,217 crore has been paid as scholarship arrears which was due since December 2008.

The state education infrastructure is being strengthened with an outlay of Rs 4,500 crore.
