The Andhra Pradesh Government has directed power utilities to complete all the erection and maintenance works for providing uninterrupted power for the eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 11) on Biological Diversity (Biodiversity).

The mega event is being held in Hyderabad from October 1-19, 2012. It is considered to be biggest international conference ever held in India.

The State Principal Secretary Energy, M. Sahoo, said that the Government is determined to ensure that there is uninterrupted power supply for the event where more than 8000 delegates from 193 countries are expected to attend the international meet.

Conducting an international conference of this much magnitude at Hyderabad is a great privilege and an opportunity for the State to ensure its smooth conduct by providing necessary backup and support.

A special control room has been established at 33/11 kV Kothaguda substation by deploying a special team and staff to closely monitor power supply.

The erection works such as upgrading the power transformers, erecting additional distribution transformers, laying of underground cables, shifting of power lines were carried out in coordination with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

The Hyderabad International Convention Centre and Hitex areas in the Hitec City area have been provided power supply through dedicated feeders from 132/33 kV Madhapur substation.

The State is faced with huge demand supply mismatch due to inadequate gas supplies and drop in hydel power generation.
