The Andhra Pradesh Government will create history by linking the Godavari river with the Krishna delta helping the delta region and drought-proofing water-short Rayalaseema, according to the State Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu.
The Chief Minister today held a tele-conference with 14,000 officials, explaining the importance of linking Godavari with Krishna delta and the need to expedite projects.
The Government has taken up the multi-purpose Polavaram project that seeks to take surplus water from Godavari to river Krishna and serve the delta region. And the Pattiseema project expected to be completed by March 2016 would use multiple pumps to transfer water from Godavari for use in the delta region and Rayalaseema.
According to a statement, the Chief Minister said the process of river-linking will help in solving water woes of the State and wanted every drop of rain water to be saved and used productively.
The Chief Minister directed the officials to expedite the process of repairing isolated and damaged structures/tanks. The Government is keen that the groundwater levels in the State are maintained between 3 meters to 8 meters.
The Water Resources Department has been entrusted the task of analysing water levels across all the reservoirs, tanks, canals/water bodies in the State and thereafter update the data online.
“Fix sensors at all water bodies so that we obtain real-time information on the water available village-wise, mandal-wise and district-wise in the State. This way, we can calculate our usage and manage water effectively,” he added.
The Chief Minister added that the department could also monitor rainfall in each zone and compare the data with the predicted rainfall in that zone. “This will give us a picture about the rainfall assessment across different zones in the state for flood management,” he said.
