The Andhra Pradesh government proposes to raise funds for the new Capital city through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode by selecting project and investment partners under the Swiss Challenge approach.
It is engaged in parleys with the Singapore and Japanese Government agencies, seeking their support in the development of the Capital city.
Under the Swiss Challenge mode, after the first bid for a project is made, others are invited to counter-offer their bids. If they come up with lower bids, the original bidder is asked to match or lower their bids. If he does so, he gets the mandate. If not, the lowest bidder gets the mandate for development.
The proposed area, spread over 16.9 sq km, is planned for 3 lakh residents and developed as a vibrant business hub, creating about 7 lakh jobs. The Capital region plan is spread over 7,420 sq km.
The central business district will have nodes and development corridors from transit-oriented development approach with water bodies, recreational spaces and water front.
The area will have a metro rail of 12 km, bus rapid transit of 15 km, downtown road of 7 km, arterial roads and sub-arterial roads of 26 km and collector roads of about 53 km, with varying broad right-of-ways.
While green spaces will dot the area, emphasis will be on walkways interlinked with open and green spaces, with a blue and green network of more than 25 km to promote a walk-to-work environment and non-motorised transport.
