The Andhra Pradesh Government will ask the IT major Wipro to give it one acre of developed land in Visakhapatnam for the construction of an IT Tower.

An official of the IT Department said that the IT Tower in Visakhapatnam was originally planned at Gambeeram. But the Government felt that it should be set up within the city to make it attractive for small IT players.

Since the IT major has developed land in the city, the Government has decided to approach and convince it for one acre. “It then will be allotted to APIIC for the construction of the tower,” he said.

Alternatively, the officials would scout for land with local administration for a suitable site for the tower.

The State is in the process of developing IT Towers in tier-II cities such as Visakhapatnam, Warangal, Tirupathi and Kakinada.

“The idea is to offer commercial office space on rental, at a rate less than the private infrastructure providers,” the official said.

The APIIC (Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation) has called for expression of interest. Ten 10 consultants had submitted their proposals. Of them, three bidders were selected.
