The Andhra Pradesh Government is planning to set up a Sector Skill Council for the State on the lines of the one established at the national level.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu has asked the Advisory Council of the AP State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) to study the proposal to give a focussed approach to development of different sectors.
“The councils must be lead by local industrialists drawn from 42 sectors identified by the National council. This will help in increasing skills of people,” the Chief Minister said.
Pilot scheme
The corporation would train 15,000 students in 14 courses in Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) area. It would partner with UNDP and global retail chain IKEA to train 5,000 women in handicrafts in 10 clusters.
Reviewing the corporation’s activities at Vijayawada on Sunday, the Chief Minister asked the corporation, the APSSDC to appoint a consultant to come out with a forecast on the demand for various skills globally and in India. He also wanted them to rope in placement agencies to train and find jobs for the unemployed.
