The second National Jackfruit Festival (NJFF) 2015 will be held from May 15 to 18 at Aranmula heritage village in Pathanamthitta district.
It is jointly organised by the Aranmula Heritage Trust, Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA) and the Jackfruit Promotion Council (JPC), said CV Ananda Bose, Chairman, NJFF.
‘Jackfruit-Livelihood Opportunities’ is the theme of the festival, Bose said. The first national jackfruit festival was held in Thiruvananthapuram in 2011.
There will be a national seminar and training classes in cookery, post-harvest processing, value-addition techniques, packaging, marketing etc, GG Gangadharan, President, CISSA, said. According to Kummanam Rajasekharan, Chairman, Aranmula Heritage Trust, which is one of the organisers of the festival, said that in the past, jackfruit from the tender to the ripe stage was an inseparable part of the daily menu in every Kerala home during its season.
L Pankajakshan, general secretary, Jackfruit Promotion Council, said the festival would bring all important stakeholders together.
