Bharatiya Janata Party has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to introspect and decide what should be done on his part to restore the faith of people in the entire political establishment.
Party veteran L.K. Advani had demanded on Friday that the resignation of the Law Minister was not enough. He said the PM should also resign after the observations against the Centre by the Supreme Court on the affidavit based on the probe report into coal scam.
The party president, Rajnath Singh, interestingly, did not demand the PM's resignation but appealed to the Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samajwadi Party that if they are seriously concerned about the deterioration of system and grievances of the people, they should withdraw support from the UPA.
“Otherwise they will equally be held responsiblefor this disastrous situation,’’ Singh said.
He said the BJP believed that Ashwani Kumar and Pawan Bansal have been made scapegoats to divert attention from the Prime Minister.
“Why the CBI’s coalgate report was doctored by the Law Minister in the presence of a PMO official? Was it not an attempt to cover up the details of coal blocks allocation during the period when the PM himself, held coal ministry?’’ he asked.
Kumar told reporters here on Saturday that he resigned to end the unnecessary controversies. “Credibility of the UPA Government is at such a low that the much delayed departure of Ashwani Kumar and Pawan Bansal cannot restore it,’’ Singh said.
