Bail to granite company owner in 18 cases

The Madras High Court Bench today granted anticipatory bail to owner of PRP Granites P R Palanisamy, his partners and family members in 18 of the 33 cases filed against them for alleged illegal quarrying.

The Police had filed the cases against Palanisamy, his wife, two sons and three relatives for alleged illegal quarrying, encroaching on water sources and destroying them, causing crores of rupees loss to the exchequer.

The court had already granted Palanisamy and his partners bail in 15 of the 33 cases.

Besides five cases for which anticipatory bail had been filed did not have FIR number at all. The government advocate also informed the court no such case pending with police and so anticipatory bail pleas were dismissed in the five cases.

Justice C T Selvam granted bail to Palanisamy on condition that he surrender his passport to the Melur judicial magistrate and inform him and obtain permission from the court before going abroad.

The Judge granted anticipatory for others also in the case with direction to them to cooperate in the investigation.

Palanisamy and the others were charged with looting granite several crores of rupees worth from Melur taluk in Madurai. He had surrendered on August 18.
