All display boards inside and on the premises of Bengaluru International Airport are expected to carry information in Kannada, Karnataka’s official language, in addition to English by the year-end.

President of Kannada Development Authority (KDA) ‘Mukhyamantri’ Chandru told reporters here today that he spent some time at the airport and urged its management to have Kannada signboards within three months, which was accepted by them.

In addition, flight information announcements, including departure and arrival, will be made in Kannada, he said, adding, the management has also agreed to make Kannada newspapers available at the airport.

Chandru said he also visited the Toyota Kirloskar Motor plant at Bidadi on the outskirts of Bangalore, where also the management agreed to have display boards in Kannada as well within three months.

He said he had also urged the managements of the airport and plant to celebrate Karnataka Rajyostava Day (State foundation day) on November 1 every year in a befitting manner and not in a routine fashion.

Jurisdictional Tahsildars have been asked to monitor the implementation vis-a-vis Kannada promotion, Chandru added.

KDA has statutory status for effective implementation of projects and programmes relating to development of Kannada and monitor and evaluate the implementation of Kannada as official language.
