West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday announced that the State government would take over the Jessop and Dunlop India Ltd which are now closed.
“We have decided to take over the Jessop and Dunlop. We will take steps in this direction and will also bring a Bill,” Banerjee told the House on the penultimate day of the current session before the coming Assembly election.
In this connection, she mentioned the Union government taking over few closed tea gardens in north Bengal. Both Jessop and Dunlop are owned by the Ruia group and both the units are presently closed. The Ruia group had earlier tried to reopen the units but they closed down after few days of operations.
