To showcase farmers’ culture and traditions, the Karnataka government plans to hold ‘Sankranti Suggi-Huggi Habba’ on January 14.
The habba, hosted by the Karnataka Kannada and Culture Department along with the Agriculture Department, will be a day-long festival to be held in Lalbagh from 10 am to 6 pm.
The State government plans to showcase harvest celebrations from six different regions in Karnataka, where one can witness farmers perform Raashi Pooje — the thanksgiving for the harvest.
Village traditionsTargeted at urban audiences, the habba is to offer an opportunity to experience rural traditions like kiteflying, bullock-cart ride (‘Sankranti-savari’), etc.
As part of the habba, folk songs and dances are being planned throughout the day. At the mela, free sampling of Huggi and Pongal will be arranged. A food court will serve traditional millet and organic preparations.
The organisers have also planned a village crafts expo. On show will also be bedecked bulls and fire-walking.
