The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms – C-CAMP, technology and innovation hub, will house the BIRAC Regional Entrepreneurship Centre (BREC) in Bengaluru. The centre has been set up with the objective of encouraging the spirit of bio-entrepreneurship, facilitating the creation of life science start-ups and mentoring start-ups to increase their chances of success.
Proposed activities at BREC include biotechnology entrepreneurship awareness programmes, a national biotechnology entrepreneurship challenge, business/ strategy boot-camps and workshops with national/ international experts, investor meetings and knowledge seminars. BIRAC is the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council.
“BIRAC’s strategy for establishing BREC at C-CAMP is to amplify our portfolio of activities, which can be leveraged by biotech start-ups to transition and scale to the next level,” said Dr Satya Dash, Head – SPED, BIRAC.
“C-CAMP has some exciting programmes in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in biotechnology. Launching BREC at C-CAMP provides an ideal platform to step up and amplify the biotechnology entrepreneurship scenario across India” said Dr Taslimarif Saiyed, Director & COO, C-CAMP.
Dr Saiyed further said, “We look forward to building partnerships with other stakeholders of the entrepreneurial ecosystem to achieve BREC goal.”
BREC was officially launched recently by Prof G Padmanaban, Honorary Professor and Former Director IISc, and Prof K VijayRaghavan Secretary, Department of Biotechnology.
