The Party has alleged that more than 10 lakh voters were not listed

The Maharashtra unit of the Bhartiya Janta Party has filed a police complaint against election officers for mass deletion of names from the Mumbai voters’ lists. It has alleged that around 10 lakh names of the voters are missing due to connivance of officers with the ruling Congress and Nationalist Congress Party.

On Thursday, numerous Mumbaikars could not vote because of massive deletions of names from the lists.

Addressing the media on Friday senior BJP leader Kirit Somiya addressing said that the officers had not paid attention to the problem in spite of repeated reminders over the last year. In a week, a delegation of BJP, Shiv Sena and other alliance parties will meet the Chief Election Commissioner HS Brahma demanding action against errant officers in Maharashtra, he said.

Justice sought

Somiya said: “If the Police department does not take action in seven days then we will approach the courts. ” Somiya pointed that 50,000 voters were missing from the list in Ghatkopar but in the neighbouring Shivaji Nagar area of Mulund only 4,000 names have been deleted and another 50,000 names have been added, out of which 47,000 names have been added without any due diligence. He said that the party is demanding action as such procedures defy logic. Somiya demanded justice from the central election commission. He said the situation could be salvaged by holding an additional round of voting by May 12 for those whose name was deleted from the voters list.
