About 33.4 per cent of the 83 crore voters in India voted for Bharatiya Janata Party in Elections 2014, giving the party a thumping victory.
As per the latest Election Commission of India updates, the Indian National Congress, which after 10 years of rule got a drubbing, polled 21.4 per cent of the votes.
The Bahujan Samaj Party came in third with 4.2 per cent of votes.
The parties that polled more than 1 per cent votes include: All India Trinamool Congress (4 per cent); Communist Party of India (Marxist) (3.7 per cent); Samajwadi Party (3.3 per cent); Independent (3.2 per cent); Aam Aadmi Party (2.5 per cent); All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (2.2 per cent); Shiv Sena (1.9 per cent); YSR Congress Party (1.6 per cent); Nationalist Congress Party (1.5 per cent); and Telugu Desam Party (1.4 per cent).
About 1.1 per cent of the voters pressed the “none of the above (NOTA)” button on the Electronic Voting Machine.
