Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati has predicted “surprising results” for the Lok Sabha elections, due in 2014. Addressing reporters on her birthday, the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said both the ruling Congress and the Opposition, Bharatiya Janata Party, had failed to address the issues of common man. She said the UPA Government was surviving because of a “non-serious” NDA, led by the BJP.

She said the UPA Government would have fallen by this time had the BJP showed some responsibility as an Opposition party. “If the BJP was a serious Opposition party, many partners in the UPA would have joined the NDA. The BJP is not serious and the Congress is benefiting from this,” she said, and added that the Opposition’s attitude had disappointed the people.

She said the voters would take an appropriate decision in the elections, and added that the “results will be surprising.” She, however, did not elaborate on her party’s strategy for the elections. Mayawati urged the Congress to ensure the passage of Reservation in Promotions Bill in the Budget session of Parliament. She said her party would take a stand on the Budget session after considering the Government’s position on the Bill.
