A joint action committee of builders in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, representing some 2,000 developers and 1,000 contractors, has decided to extend their boycott of cement purchases till July 20 in protest against alleged cartelisation by cement makers.
They had earlier stopped purchase of cement during July 5-12.
The committee includes the Andhra Pradesh Real Estate Developers’ Association, the Telangana Real Estate Developers’ Association, the Builders Association of India and the Telangana Builders Federation.
Impact on development The meeting attended by C. Shekar Reddy, National president CREDAI and chairman and others in a statement said: “We have also raised our concerns with the Chief Ministers of both the States. During our meetings, both instructed the senior officials to look into the matter,” the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (Credai) said in a statement after a meeting of its officials, including National President C Shekar Reddy. They wanted the cement makers to avoid cartelisation and roll back the steep hike in cement prices they announced.
Such unreasonable increases in prices would affect the common man and act as a roadblock to the development of the country, the JAC said.
