The Election Commission has scheduled the by-election to the Radhakrishnan Nagar Assembly constituency here for June 27.
According to an official press release, polling will be held on June 27 and the votes will be counted on June 30. Prospective candidates can submit their nominations from June 3 to 10.
The by-poll to the constituency in north Chennai is of significance as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa is expected to contest from the seat.
She had lost her elected post and had to step down in September 2014 after being convicted in a disproportionate assets case. She was, however, acquitted earlier this month by the Bangalore High Court.
Jayalalithaa was sworn in again as Chief Minister on May 23 after a gap of over seven months. She now has to be elected as a Member of the Legislature.
