Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has welcomed the withdrawal of the old high denomination ₹500 and ₹1,000 notes by the Centre, but at the same time the move has resulted in problems to the common man and small traders.
At a meeting of the TDP workers at Chodavaram in Visakhapatnam district on Thursday, he said that he was seized of the problem for the past few days and was thinking of various ways to reduce the problems of the common people.
‘Withdraw ₹2,000 note’“I feel everybody should have a bank account under the ‘Jan Dhan’ scheme and pay through cheques. I also feel that the ₹2,000 notes should be withdrawn as they would contribute to black money. The new ₹500 note is also in short supply,” he said. He added, “These are all temporary problems. In the long run, you should all adopt mobile banking, Internet banking and card transactions for your own convenience.
“Cashless transactions should be encouraged. We have introduced e-pass machines at the fair price shops and small shops should also introduce high-tech systems to save us the hassle of going to the bank for everything.”
The Chief Minister, however, pointed out: “We cannot totally dispense with cash. I am putting pressure on the Centre and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to issue adequate number of lower denomination notes to meet the needs of the common people.”
Earlier, the Chief Minister attended the inaugural function of the first ever test cricket match being played here at the Andhra Cricket Association Stadium at Potinamallyapalem.
