Former Union Minister and Congress leader Matang Sinh was on Saturday arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the multi-crore rupees Saradha scam.

He was interrogated for over seven hours in connection with the scam.

The former MP from Assam had served as a minister of state for Parliamentary Affairs in the PV Narasimha Rao Government between 1991 and 1996.

According to a CBI spokesperson, Sinh has been arrested in connection with Saradha Realty case on charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating and misappropriation of funds.

He had earlier been questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with Saradha scam in Delhi on his links. Sinh is said to have entered into business deals with the Saradha Group.

The Saradha Group involved in various ponzi schemes went bust in April 2013 duping several investors in West Bengal and the neighbouring states.
