A Central committee has arrived in Tamil Nadu to visit the drought-affected areas in the State.
The State Government had recently submitted a memorandum to the Centre seeking Rs 19,665-crore compensation for the losses it suffered due to the drought following the failure of north-east and south-west monsoons. It had announced 32 districts as drought-hit areas.
The committee, headed by a Union Agriculture Ministry official Parvesh Sharma, has representatives from the Water Resources and Meteorology departments.
The team would be divided into two groups and visit parts of the affected districts for four days, committee member Balasubramaniyam told reporters at the airport here.
