The Union Government has asked the Telangana Government to complete the enumeration of crop losses due to the recent heavy rains and send a report to it at the earliest.
Union Labour Minister (independent charge) Bandaru Dattatreya and Union Agriculture Secretary Siraj Hussain held a meeting with officials of the Telangana Government and discussed various issues that dogged the agriculture sector in the State.
The review meeting, held here on Sunday, covered suicides by farmers, drought conditions and the extensive damage caused due to the heavy rains in the last few days.
"We have asked them (the State) officials to complete the enumeration as early as possible and send a report to the Centre so that it can send a team to assess the situation," he said.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked all the Central Ministers to tour extensively in the respective States and address the challenges faced by the farmers," he said.
Addressing a press conference after the review meeting, Dattatreya said the State could immediately use the funds of about Rs 200 crore allotted to it by the Centre to mitigate the losses in times of disasters," he said.
