The Central Government has been asked to take an early decision of Telangana issue, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy said.

He said the UPA Government and the Central leadership, with whom he has had talks during the visit to Delhi earlier in the week, have been requested to find an early solution.

“We are providing all necessary information they need to come out with a decision on the issue. They are in the process of taking a quick decision,” he told reporters.

Addressing a press conference, he was responding to a query on his visit to Delhi and Telangana. However, he did not clarify whether it was for the formation of a separate State of Telangana or favoured a unified State or any other amicable solution.

“We are trying to help them take a decision,” he said.

Earlier, the Chief Minister said though the cooperative elections are fought on apolitical basis, it is clear more than 50 per cent have been bagged by the Congress party. “The victory vindicates the role the Congress Party in the State and the UPA Government at the Centre played since 2004 in support of the farmers’ cause,” he said.

However, this only shows that they (farmers) want us to do much more and continue to good work for improving the farm sector. He said that the farm sector has been extended nearly Rs 52,000 crore of financial assistance during the year, which includes Rs 42,000 crore towards crop loans. It is proposed to increase it to about Rs 60,000 crore next financial year.

Being sensitive to the farm sector has helped us provide them necessary support and subsidies, both towards power subsidy, interest rebates by Centre and states. This is being supported by other measures, including adding additional ayacut for irrigation, he said.

It is proposed to add about 30 lakh hectares more to ayacut by 2014, he said.
