CESC Ltd, the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group flagship company, will make electricity bills available in both Bengali and Hindi. The initiative will be available to nearly 3 million customers of the power utility; starting this month, that is, for October bills (available in the month of November).
According to Sanjiv Goenka, Group Chairman, a customer can log into the company website or via mobile seek the option of getting the electricity bills in a vernacular language.
“The first CESC bills were handwritten in English. Now our customer profiling reveal that there are many who may not be proficient with English. Hence, we have introduced the option of having the bills in vernacular languages,” he told mediapersons during a press conference.
A sample of the vernacular bill was handed over to the Member of Parliament and actor Dev (aka Deepak Adhikari) by Goenka.
CESC, he said, was also trying to come up with more kiosks, that would facilitate bill payments. Eight such kiosks are already active.
For the festive season, particularly Durga Puja, CESC is looking to 3780 temporary connections (to Puja pandals), as against the 3715 last year.
According to Goenka, an additional 50 MW of power is expected to be the required during the Puja days.
Appropriate steps are also being taken to prevent hooking and power theft during the festive days.
