A Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal Bench is likely to be set up in Hyderabad soon.

Currently, the Bench in Bangalore is catering to Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Kerala.

“Negotiations are at a critical stage for putting in place the required infrastructure (for the Bench) at Hyderabad. The Bench is proposed to be located in a building belonging to a government department,” G Raghu Ram, President CESTAT, said here today.

He said in the CESTAT over one lakh cases were pending.

It has been more than a year since the Union Cabinet approved setting up of the Bench. Besides Hyderabad, the Union Cabinet on October 17, 2013 had approved setting up new benches of CESTAT in Chandigarh and Allahabad, besides one more each in New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai.

Anil Reddy, Sr Vice President of Federation of Telangana and AP Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the Hyderabad Bench would help the government and the trade, as the need to travel to Bangalore will be eliminated.
