The political scene hotted up on Wednesday in Andhra Pradesh, with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu alleging “a huge ₹500-crore scam in Hyderabad” in which the “main culprits are YSR Congress leaders Jaganmohan Reddy and Vijayasai Reddy, who are being shielded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The chowkidar is certainly guarding the ill-gotten wealth of the economy’s white-collar criminals like Jagan and Vijayasai Reddy.”

At a press meet at his residence in Amaravati, the AP Chief Minister attacked his political adversaries on the basis of a letter written to the CBI in 2017 by the Enforcement Directorate regarding “the fraudulent purchase of 11.0 acres by a company, which is alleged to be linked to Jaganmohan Reddy through his friend, Vijayasai Reddy, from the Hinduja group in Hyderabad city. The Hinduja group favoured Jagan and his friend, Vijayasai Reddy for a favour rendered to the group by Jagan’s father and the late chief minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy, in allowing change in land use pattern for 100 acres of the group in the city.”

‘Damning expose’

The details of the “explosive and damning expose”, as described by the Chief Minister, were published in a scoop by a leading Telugu daily. The Chief Minister explained “how the Hinduja group virtually gifted the 11.0 acres in Hyderabad city, presently valued at ₹500 crores, to Jagan through a devious route by setting up shell companies. It is an open and shut case of quid pro quo and money laundering, and the ED wrote a letter to the CBI two years ago urging the latter to conduct a thorough inquiry. But the CBI is in deep slumber.”

Training his guns on the trio — Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jagan Mohan Reddy and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao — he said: “All the three owe an explanation to the people of why no action has been taken in the matter. The PM proclaimed repeatedly in 2014 that he will not eat and he will not let others eat."

‘Habitual offender’

Describing Jaganmohan Reddy as “a habitual and hardened economic offender”, he cautioned the people of Andhra Pradesh, “If you vote for such criminals, you will be in danger, your property will be in danger. The future of the State will be jeopardised.”
