Chennai Vividh Bharati of All India Radio is now available on FM 100.5 MHz.

Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore launched the channel today.

Listeners can tune in to Chennai Vividh Bharati on both MW 383.1/783 KHz and FM 100.5 MHz.

It was started on October 3, 1957 – initially beamed on 100 kw SW transmitter and later on a 2.5 kw MW transmitter, says an All India Radio press release.

SK Aggarwal, Additional Director General (E), All India Radio and Doordarshan, said by moving to FM Chennai Vividh Bharati would be available to a larger audience as it can be accessed in mobile phones.

It will available at a radius of 35 km and increased to around 70 km over a period of time. Rathore said FM today covers nearly 45 per cent of the country, with plans in place to increase it to nearly 65 per cent in the next two-and-a-half years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is focussed on reaching out to people through All India Radio. It is important that both AIR and Doordarshan reach out to remote places to take his message, said Rathore.
