“What more assurance do opposition parties need than a clear statement from the Tamil Nadu Governor that the Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa is doing well in the hospital,” asked the AIADMK spokesperson today.
Referring to Governor Vidyasagar Rao, visiting Jayalalithaa at the Apollo Hospital on Sunday, and the subsequent press release from the Raj Bhavan on the Chief Minister “recovering well,” the spokesperson CR Saraswathi told media persons waiting outside the hospital that the Chief Minister was doing well. There are no concerns about her health, she is resting as advised by the doctors and is in good health, Saraswathi said.
Following the Governor’s visit on Sunday, a Raj Bhavan press release said Rao had visited the Chief Minister in the ward where she is being treated. The Chairman of Apollo Hospitals Pratap C Reddy and doctors had briefed him on the treatment being given to Jayalalithaa. The Governor was “happy to note that the Chief Minister is recovering well”.
Saraswathi and senior AIADMK leaders repeated that the Chief Minister was also attending to routine government work even in hospital. She has dealt with a range of issues including the coming elections to the local bodies.
A statement from Apollo Hospitals today said the Chief Minister has been advised a few more days stay in hospital for treatment. An international specialist, Richard Beale from the Guy’s and St Thomas Hospital London was flown in on Friday. He had examined the Chief Minister and evaluated the clinical reports and concurred with the present line of management and treatment for infection is being continued, it said.
There has been widespread concern over the health condition of the Chief Minister following her hospitalisation on September 22 for fever and dehydration. Opposition parties including the DMK President and former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had demanded last week that the government make public the condition of Jayalalithaa’s health with clear evidence.
