The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has come out in support of the state government’s demand for allocation of entire quantity of power to be generated by the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant.
CII had taken up the issue with the MPs from the state requesting them to ensure that the entire quantity be allocated to Tamil Nadu, CII-Southern Region Chairman R Dinesh told reporters here.
“In August we were in Delhi to discuss the issue with the MPs. Entire nuclear power (from Kudankulam project) should be made available. That is what the government is also asking the Centre,” he said.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking additional allocation of power, including the entire Kudankulam production.
In her latest letter to Singh yesterday, she said the demand-supply gap stood at around 4000 MW, claiming to be the highest in the region, and asked the Centre to reallocate to the state over 1,700 MW proposed to be surrendered by the Delhi Government.
Dinesh welcomed the state government’s Solar Policy terming it “comprehensive”.
“It is very good policy. We welcome that. In 2010, we have said that a solar policy will be helpful given the 300 days of sunshine in the state. With this (announcement), there is a clear road map for people to invest in Tamil Nadu”, he said.
The policy, announced by Jayalalithaa last week, has an ambitious target of generating 3000 MW of solar power, at the rate of 1000 MW every year in the next three years.
