To strengthen coastal security, Indian Coast Guard is planning to establish a remote station at Belekeri in Uttara Kannada district.

A press release from the office of the Commander of Coast Guard in Karnataka at New Mangalore said there are two remote stations in Karnataka – Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada district and Surthkal in Dakshina Kannada district – to strengthen coastal security.

In order to ensure seamless surveillance coverage, a survey is being conducted at Belekeri in Uttara Kannada district to establish the third remote station in Karnataka.

Efforts are also being made to commission the coast guard air enclave at the old terminal building of the Mangalore airport, it said.

One offshore patrol vessel is planned to be based in New Mangalore by next year, once the dedicated berth is allotted by New Mangalore Port Trust.

The release said that Indian Coast Guard will conduct a motor cycle rally from Mangaluru to Karwar during the first week of February. The rally will halt at various fishing villages in the coastal region and interact with fishermen in those villages.

The headquarters of Indian Coast Guard in Karnataka at New Mangalore celebrated its 38th Raising Day on February 1, the release added.
