Coir Kranthi Express, an exhibition to highlight the modern face of coir, reached Bengaluru on Friday.
The coir industry – given its rich heritage -- has stayed abreast of the latest technology and evolving usage patterns among consumers worldwide. Once confined to being a floor covering material, coir has now spawned multiple uses – from artefacts to decoration and home utility items to personal accessories to bags & mats, textiles and furniture, among others.
Coir Kranthi Express was initiated by the Indian Coir Board, a part of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. It was flagged off on July 18 from Coimbatore and has so far covered over 25,000 km across the country in a span of 120 days.
Coir Kranthi Express is a part of the fourth India International Coir Fair 2016 organised in Coimbatore in July 2016.
