Congress today slammed YSR Congress and TDP accusing them of “political opportunism” and “turn around” on Telangana issue.
“(Congress) Surprised with the turn around of Chandra Babu (Naidu) and Jagan (Jaganmohan Reddy). Both had given support to Telengana in writing. Amazing Political Opportunism!,” AICC general secetary in—charge for Andhra Pradesh Digvijay Singh commented on the microblogging site Twitter.
While a combative YSR Congress Party chief Jagan lashed out at the Centre over its “arbitrary” decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh saying it will be challenged in the Supreme Court, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu has also announced an indefinite fast in New Delhi from Monday demanding “justice” for Seemandhra.
As the general strike called by pro—united groups in non-Telangana regions entered the second day today, Jagan, who recently got bail in a corruption case, hit out at the “unilateral manner” in which the Union Cabinet had decided on October 3 to carve out the state of Telangana.
“We are opposing the unilateral manner in which the Centre is functioning. How can it go ahead with the bifurcation process without a resolution in the state Assembly? We have never heard of an instance of state bifurcation without a resolution in the Assembly,” Jagan said.
Meanwhile, the bandh against the bifurcation entered second day in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema. Andhra Pradesh Non—Gazetted Officers (APNGOs) and other united—AP supporters have called for a 48—hour bandh, while YSRCP has called for a 72—hour shut—down in the non—Telangana regions.
The fresh round of protests over the Telangana issue have begun after the Union Cabinet, overcoming stiff resistance from Congress leaders and Ministers from Seemandhra, decided on Thursday to go ahead with creation of Telangana from out of Andhra Pradesh taking the first legal step for its statehood.
