The Congress-DMK combine is all set to form the government in Puducherry after the alliance managed a simple majority, bagging 17 seats in the Union Territory’s 30-member Assembly. The Congress won in 15 of the 21 seats it contested, also bagging the most vote share, while the DMK secured two constituencies from its nine.
Outgoing Chief Minister N Rangasamy’s All India NR Congress bagged eight seats, while the AIADMK won in 4.
Rangasamy won by 3,404 votes in the Indira Nagar constituency, defeating his Congress rival V Aroumougam.
Congress candidate and former Puducherry Chief Minister Ve Vaithilingam won the Kamaraj Nagar constituency defeating AIADMK candidate P Ganesan by 5,106 votes.
