The public can utilise the Consumer Grievance Redressal Forum and appeal to the Ombudsman if they have any complaints relating to Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation, according to a press release from the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission.
The redressal forum is a separate mechanism in each circle or district under the utility.
Consumers with complaints relating to the service provided by Tangedco, including application for new service connections, defective meters, billing dispute, faults or any other issues, can approach this forum headed by the Superintending Engineer of the circle concerned.
Each forum has two members with the Superintending Engineer of the circle as its Chairman and two outside members nominated by the District Collector. These members are selected by the District Collector on the basis of their involvement in consumer activism and public service.
The forum shall acknowledge the receipt of the petition within seven days and pass orders on the petition within two months.
The complainant can appeal to the Ombudsman stationed in the Office of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission. Complaints of common nature, applicable to more than one forum, can be directly brought up to the Electricity Ombudsman by a State-level consumer association, the release said.
