Coronavirus impact: Mumbai police prohibits group tours till March 31 under section 144

India imposed stringent travel curbs after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic.

In the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak, the Mumbai Police on Sunday has issued an order prohibiting tour operators to conduct domestic and international group tours till March 31. 

"As a precautionary measure to prevent further spread of the COVID-19 virus, Mumbai Police has issued an order prohibiting conduct of any kind of tour involving group of people traveling together to a  foreign or domestic destination organised by private tour operators or otherwise using powers u/s 144 Cr. PC," it said. 

The order shall remain in force from 00.01 hrs of 15/03/2020 to 24.00 hrs of 31/03/2020, the Mumbai Police PRO said in a statement. 

The Mumbai Police has however allowed exceptions in mandatory situations of travel."should anyone, including private tour operators, need to travel under exceptional circumstances, they may do so after seeking permission from the office of the Commissioner of Police, greater Mumbai."

Earlier this month, the government had suspended “all existing visas, except diplomatic, official, UN/international organisations, employment, project visas” until April 15. The visa-free travel facility for Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) holders has been suspended.
