The Centre has asked the Cost Accountants Institute to prepare a paper that could form the basis for involvement of its members in development of the North-East States.
“North-East is high on the priority of this government,” Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), said after giving away the CMA Awards-2014 here on Tuesday.
Active role Singh, who is also the Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region (DONER), said he sees an active role for cost and management accountants in the development of the North-East.
“We have started the development of the North-East region on a fast track. There is huge potential there. I want you (Cost Accountants Institute) to prepare a paper where we can involve you and other related groups to focus on the North-East,” Singh said.
Sigh added that India is a “happening place” today and that role of cost and management accountants was only on the rise in contemporary India.
Growth target On economic growth, Singh said the target now is to achieve double digit growth on a sustained basis. Over the last 12 months, India’s economic growth has seen appreciable improvement, he said.
AS Durga Prasad, President, Institute of Cost Accountants of India, later told Business Line that there was sufficient room for the Cost Accountants Institute to expand its education activities in the North-East.
