CPI(M) State Secretary, Surjya Kanta Mishra, on Saturday accused the ruling Trinamool Congress of orchestrating planned political violence against the Opposition parties, particularly the Left Front constituents and the Congress, here in the State.

Pointing out that over 500 offices of the CPI(M) and other Left parties have been vandalised in a little over two days, Mishra said:  “The Trinamool is not just ransacking our offices, they are also desecrating many of them. In some cases they are forcefully taking them over and beating up our people. The violence has been unabated since the results were declared.”

Incidentally, several reports of post poll violence have erupted from across the State. The violence has only increased after the results declared on May 20 saw the Trinamool come to power with a thumping majority of 211 seats in the 294 seat West Bengal legislative Assembly.

Mishra further alleged that attacks were being systematically carried out on polling and counting agents. Former MLAs and MPs of the CPI(M) were also being targeted across districted.

“Not just workers, former MLAs and MPs are also being targeted. In some of the districts even women-folk of the household are being beaten up. Home are being vandalised and the party workers threatened,” he added.

False cases, according to the CPI(M) State secretary, were being  filed against CPI(M) leaders and winning Left Front candidates in order to harass them. “The Opposition members are being singled out and false cases are being filed against them,” he said.

The Left Front which has lost the status of the principal Oppostion party of the State has been able to win just 33 seats, including a Left-supported Independent candidate. Alliance partner Congress won 44 seats. The Left Front-Congress Alliance together has a tally of 77 seats.

The BJP, along with its ally, the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, has been able to win six seats(three each).
