Speakers at a seminar on ‘Data mining for computer security’ here on Friday felt that data mining would see an exponential growth in the coming years.
Inaugurating the seminar, Rajesh L. Patrao, Principal Technology Architect of Infosys Ltd, said that data mining is a crucial step for analysis. It helps find something new from the existing data.
Everybody is investing in the area of data mining as this area would see an exponential growth in the coming years, he said.
Delivering the keynote address, Anoop Kudva P., Programme Manager at IBM India Pvt Ltd, said that data mining helps in analysing the customer behaviour, and analysing the sales potential of the product. It also helps in analysing the web page traffic behaviour.
Referring to some cases of telemarketing, he said the marketers use the data mining to understand the customers and market the products based on their needs. If the information gathered from data mining is not properly executed, it may lead to troubles to those marketers, he said.

The seminar was jointly organised by the Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College of Business Management and the Diya Systems Pvt Ltd, Mangalore. Aruna P. Kamath, principal of the college, was present on the occasion.
